Photograph by Helena Insko.
Opposable thumb. Ms. Insko submits this photograph of a fully opposable thumb as evidence of evolution and writes, "My mom and I have been voting in the photo contest as long as I can remember (I'm 10). When my mom told me the theme was how we know evolution is correct, this is my answer (and my hand)."

I'm opposed to thumbs, or at least the rest of my hand is.
The opposable thumb is highly overrated. Without it there would absolutely no problems with pollution, global warming or old age. Even budget deficits would be a thing of the past. Wait ... p.s. Check out newandamazing.com for a humorous take on science.

I never quite get photos like that. Yes, that's something a thumb can do, but how often do you do THAT? A more telling photo of the utility of the opposable thumb would be one of a hand and thumb wrapping around, say, a baseball bat, or just a big stick, or holding a large rock.

Are Pandas opposed to thumbs? :D

Thumbs up, Ms. Insko!

Have you ever counted to four on one hand? :-)

Uhh, Ron, Helena should wash her hands. Or not.

Is that where we get the phrase "all thumbs"? Just think, ALL thumbs. Awesome. Actually, though, the opposibility of the little finger is pretty important, too.
