Any minute now we're going to get a reference to "A Night on a Bear Mountain" in the funny music titles subthread on the Darwin Day post.
Is there actually any specific reason for the name "Bear Lake", such as someone being attacked by a bear here? Or is it just a mis-spelling of "bare", given that the mountains behind qualify as bare mountains.

I'm going to hazard a guess and say that they call it "Bear Lake" because there was a sizable population of bears at the time explorers discovered it.
