Yahoo Logins
For those of you using Yahoo logins to comment, you can customize your displayed username by going to Yahoo.com > Account Information > Manage/Create OpenID > Show customization options. By doing this, you can get rid of those ugly urls in your username.
Update
If you have already signed in with a Yahoo account, you need to remove the PT entry under "Manage App and Website Connections" from your Yahoo account settings. Then when you sign it again, Yahoo will ask you to pick which OpenID identifier you want to use.

Just testing. Thanks for the tip.

It seems not to go through for me. It says to try later, but later I get the same nonsense.

Once you get to the manage/create openID page, the bottom window titled "feeling geeky" lets you put in a custom name instead of the usual mess. I did the "create a sign in seal" first, if that makes a difference.

It doesn't look good for me.

Are you unable to find that part of the Yahoo website? Or are you not able to get it to work with PT.
You may have to log out of PT and log back in via Yahoo to select your new url.

No, it doesn't work for me either, Reed. You might as well just delete the blog entry above. Nice try though.

Okay it looks like you need to go to "Manage App and Website Connections" from your Yahoo account settings. From there delete you PT connection. Then when you sign it again, Yahoo will ask you to pick which OpenID identifier you want to use.

Screw Yahoo and the horse they rode in on. No more "encountered a problem try again later.
I'm not using the latest version of Yahoo and use Ubuntu. I'm chalking up the failure to
communicate to one or both.
What's wrong with just opening an account? I seriously doubt PT is a spammer or would sell
any info. Right?

That's a little better?

Dale,
How exactly did Yahoo not work? Was PT not in the list of website connections? When you signed out of PT and signed back in, did Yahoo not ask you to pick your identifier?
I'm still tracking down the Google issue.

Dale,
I figured out why your Google login doesn't work as expected. You have an @att.net email address stored in your Google profile. Our blog software will only harvest the username from @gmail.com email addresses when logging in using a Google identity. If you want me to edit the database to change your display name, just let me know what to use.

So, what is the reason for replies showing "XX replied to comment from XX"? Shouldn't it indicate the original author, namely YY?

Thanks for the effort, even if it didn't succeed.
