Fraser River

Fraser River, an endangered river environment, Pitt Meadows, B. C., Canada. Mr. Lord writes, "In 2010, the Fraser River became the third most endangered river in British Columbia due to pollution, agriculture, industrialization, and urbanization. In the 18 years in which the list of endangered rivers of B. C. has been kept, the Fraser River has been in the top 5, 17 times. The Fraser river is home to the endangered white sturgeon. In 2009, 90% of the expected return of spawning sockeye salmon did not show up in the Fraser River. A catastrophic collapse of the sockeye salmon population may have occurred, possibly due to overfishing, pollution, and climate change."

(sigh)
Always wanted to take a canoe trip from Chilliwack down to Vancouver. Bucket list.

Great shot, Ken!

On the bright side, this year's sockeye run was apperantly the best in half a century.

apparently

Lovely composition: I can practically hear, smell and touch the scene. Sadly typical story.

Great picture!

Just an update - this year the Fraser River had its strongest sockeye salmon run since 1913.

(shrug) Okay, almost a full century, then. :-\

Its my impression, as a Canadian, that often the pollution crowd hypes wrongly how bad this or that natural thing is in health. Just to get their way on concepts of how healthy things should be.
The Frasor river or some connection has the rare case of boils coming to the surface. This was noted by the explorer Thompson and since had researchers try to figure it out. i'm unsure if they did.

Please excuse me; I rarely engage trolls, but see: Hydraulic boil.
See also here and search for "boil." The river does not have a rare "case" of "boils."

I'm not a troll. I don't know what a troll is. Why the accusation? Anyways. I was unsure if boils were rare or not when i said so. Your info doesn't comment on this. One of them is about the ocean receiving from a river and of streams connecting around islands. Not the river boils I read about. I have read about them and am vague if they explained them yet. I still think they are rare relative to all the rivers, all the time, flowng. I;m not sure. I know the explorer Thompson was surprised by them and he was all over the undiscovered lands out west. They are cool and I wished I could watch one.

Robert Byers, we do not appreciate the fact that you constantly continue coming here to make factually incorrect and obviously bigoted statements. This unappreciation is, in fact, what got you banned from Professor PZ Myers' blog. Your posts mark you as a very stupid individual who is too arrogant to bother educating himself: If you don't appreciate the fact that we take offense to your arrogant stupidity, why don't you stop posting here all together?
