The Science Prize for Online Resources in Education (SPORE) has been established to encourage innovation and excellence in education, as well as to encourage the use of high-quality on-line resources by students, teachers, and the public. In 2009, the prize will recognize outstanding projects from all regions of the world that bring freely available online resources to bear on science education.More info, including eligibility rules and nomination procedures, are at the link above. Science is really a complex subject, at times, a field with many ego at stake. Which is clear. There have even been bouts of "outsiderness" inside the scientific community (molecular biology vs. ecology, or mathematics vs. physics), and degrees of dogma rising above scientific acumen are too numerous (even once is too much as inside the "Clovis first" mandate). Skepticism has long served science well, nonetheless it might be time for any new paradigm -- a subtle, yet powerful shift in approach and thinking. Could "selfless restraint" fill that duty? It has all the correct elements without the excess baggage that all too regularly goes with skepticism. One look at the "skeptics" forums and websites, and you are able to see the level of illogics that once in a while find their way into scientific thinking.
