I've been to some obscure-sounding conferences in the past, and I KNOW that Drosophila are important for genetic research, but a WHOLE conference JUST about Drosophila!? Come on! Is that why part of the post is about the hotel?
Professor Steve Steve, I looked for you last weekend at the Mind of the Chimpanzee conference in Chicago. It was very well attended -- over 300 people. Did I miss you in the crowd?

Steve Steve was stuck in the hotel lobby until Saturday afternoon because the staff at the Marriott are incompetenet, and he missed the majority of the science at the conference. But, yeah, it's a small meeting. Only 1000+ participants.

fruit flies again? didn't we try that once and the mutated ones couldn't fly and die? and still, a fruit fly is still a fruit fly. Go mutations!
Steviepinhead · 4 April 2007
levi, are you ever gonna make an intelligent, well-reasoned--heck! well-typed!--comment, or are you just gonna flit around from thread to thread, making moronic statements and getting repeatedly served.
Your choice, boyo.

thanks for the advice. i'll just stick to common sense. Mine says that any theory that puts it's hopes in mutations is hard to swallow. Quick, call me a name or a bad typist cite some microevolution article. Go mutations!
Did it ever occur to you Levi that some things in the universe might be too complicated for your (or anyone's) common sense to grasp? Try applying your common sense to quantum physics experiments, and you'll be wrong wrong wrong, and in a demonstrable way. Ditto for Newton's laws of motion. Your common sense does not say an object in motion will remain in motion until acted on by an outside force. Your common sense does even worse with relativistic motion. Examples abound. Do you reject all of that as well?
levi · 4 April 2007
wow science avenger that hurt. you dropped quantum physics on me...you must be an expert. I am sorry to try and enter your relm. Maybe if I mutated into a higher thought process. I thought we were talking about mutations! But once again you showed me. And yet a chimp is still a chimp. Quick...tell me I'm dumb again. Or would that be a force working on a dumber force. Who needs Newton! Evolutionists don't! Go mutations!
Common sense says that a complex organism will strongly resemble its recent ancestors. Any non-evolutionary model of origin or species would require exceptions to that, and that would violate common sense. So unlike relativity and quantum mechanics, the basic principles of evolution are consistent, and maybe even implied by, common sense.

Levi is still at it with his evidence-free "chimp is still a chimp" bumper-sticker inanity.
So I'm still at it with my actual evidence that there's much more to chimpness than levi's universe yet contains:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18057867/ Chimps spotted using caves Findings suggest chimps shelter themselves in caves to hide from heat
I've now seen your chimp bet, chump, and raised you several times. Why don't you ante up something beside inane repitition? Let's see you put some evidence on the table, in place of that pool of drool currently located beneath your chin.
levi · 11 April 2007
wait...let me get this straight, a chimp was in a cave? extraordinary! we better write 4 articles! and yet my bumber sticker mentality firmlt states that chimp is still you guessed it. does this mean I have to fold? since you raised me that chimps like the shade? yes I guess I am still an idiot while looking at all species as the exist... and yet no beneficial mutations have produced a single transitional form right now at this very second. hurry up talk about some amino acid expirement and claim abiogenesis dosn't have to do anything with evolution. wait- was the chimp enjoying some GNC amino acids while in the cave? I wish I would mutate to your level- but for now I'll stick with my common sense and visual sense to exploit evolution exists only in your minds. P.S. I still enjoy my time with you:-) Go mutations!

But the Drosophila are still just fruit flies!

No, they are vinegar flies.

Believe it or not, they're both vinegar flies and pomace flies.
