Steve Steve was stuck in the hotel lobby until Saturday afternoon because the staff at the Marriott are incompetenet, and he missed the majority of the science at the conference. But, yeah, it's a small meeting. Only 1000+ participants.

thanks for the advice. i'll just stick to common sense. Mine says that any theory that puts it's hopes in mutations is hard to swallow. Quick, call me a name or a bad typist cite some microevolution article. Go mutations!

Did it ever occur to you Levi that some things in the universe might be too complicated for your (or anyone's) common sense to grasp? Try applying your common sense to quantum physics experiments, and you'll be wrong wrong wrong, and in a demonstrable way. Ditto for Newton's laws of motion. Your common sense does not say an object in motion will remain in motion until acted on by an outside force. Your common sense does even worse with relativistic motion. Examples abound. Do you reject all of that as well?

Common sense says that a complex organism will strongly resemble its recent ancestors. Any non-evolutionary model of origin or species would require exceptions to that, and that would violate common sense. So unlike relativity and quantum mechanics, the basic principles of evolution are consistent, and maybe even implied by, common sense.
